Brückenbildung NRW - Conference in Brussels:

On 18 February 2019, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of Culture and Science, presented the Brückenbildung NRW project as a pilot scheme for systematic synergy building between European funding programmes for research and regional development. The conference took place at the Permanent Representation of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union in Brussels.

The aim of the project Brückenbildung NRW, which will run from October 2015 to December 2018, is to make even better use of the innovation and internationalization potential available in the state. The central element is the creation of synergies between the EU Structural Funds (ERDF) and Horizon 2020 support programs.

In Horizon 2020, the European Commission provides direct funding of about € 80 billion for projects in the areas of research, innovation and competitiveness. Through its structural funds, it indirectly supports innovation-related activities in the regions. The intention is to optimise synergies that in turn maximise the results generated from the use of EU funding and further enhance the competitiveness of Europe’s economy.
