Profiles

North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the ten most successful regions in the EU’s Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation. Results from cutting-edge European research projects can be incorporated in the development of new products and services by North Rhine-Westphalian companies and enhance their global competitiveness.Technology offers are presented in the shape of technology profiles that can be integrated in innovations produced by small and medium-sized enterprises in the framework of collaborative projects, which in turn may be eligible for funding, for example through NRW’s Lead Market competitions.

Energy – Energy efficiency
With the state-of-the art process models and simulation instruments in use at the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering at the University of Paderborn, it is possible to significantly increase the energy efficiency of process engineering processes and plants (especially heat exchangers).

ICT – Information and communication technologies for the public sector
Together with partners, the Fraunhofer Institute for Technological Trend Analysis INT has developed an innovation identification framework which aims to transform the public sector through newly emerging information and telecommunication technologies and will soon be showcased as a pioneer in the area of new technologies.

Sustainability – Optimised freezing and thawing process
With its FRISH concept, Wolfram Ungermann Systemkälte GmbH & Co.KG has succeeded in freezing and thawing freshly caught fish without comprising quality or weight. The process solves the core problem of spoilage in the supply chain. At the same time, it gives the end consumer higher quality products than traditional fresh produce, which has often already been on the road for several days before it arrives on the shelf. The process is extremely energy-efficient, uses no additives and means that less food is destroyed because of spoilage.
