The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a key element of the European circular economy strategy. It has its origins in the EU Ecodesign Regulation. Initiated by the digital product passport, a basic digital infrastructure for the circular management of various product groups is being established. In the future, product-specific data and information such as the CO2 footprint, reparability or toxic ingredients will be available. This should drive the circularity of products, better inform customers in their purchasing decisions and create more transparency along the entire value chain. The first implementations of the Digital Product Passport are planned for the areas of batteries (from 2027), textiles, electronics, plastics and the construction sector. Regulations are to be introduced for many other product categories.

As the development is currently in flux, companies should inform themselves about the process at an early stage. What is the status quo? What are companies likely to face? How can the DPP be implemented? And what should it look like?

To answer these questions, the DIHK and the Climate Protection Business Network, an IHK platform, invite you to a webinar on 20 June 2024 under the motto"Update Digital Product Passport - an opportunity for a more circular economy’" It will take place digitally via MS Teams from 1 pm to 2 pm. Christoph Petri, Head of Environmental and Raw Materials Policy at the DIHK - German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, will present the results of a DIHK survey on the circular economy. Another speaker will be Dr Holger Berg, Deputy Head of the Circular Economy Department and Co-Head of the Digital Transformation Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, who will explain the DPP and discuss the latest developments.
